Someone wise once told me: you never know unless you go

Amu Dahi Villas & Restaurant

The vision and work of french couple Marine and Youri, Amu Dahi Villas & Restaurant in the town of Melolo on Sumba island in eastern Indonesia is an amazing stay in the middle of the rich culture that is Sumba.

On the eastern side of Sumba island in the town of Melolo lies Amu Dahi Villas & Restaurant, a sustainable facility. The grounds of Amu Dahi are simply beautiful - upon stepping into the place you will find:

  • villas built in traditional Sumbanese architectural style,

  • a beautiful open air restaurant serving a mix of Indonesian and Western foods for reasonable prices,

  • lush gardens with homegrown vegetables that feed the restaurant,

  • palm trees with fresh coconuts to hand (which you can order off the menu and one of the lovely staff will climb the tree and get it for you fresh!),

  • a chemical-free pool (thanks to an ingenious cleaning system that uses reeds and plants), and

  • a bio-gas system that helps to power the whole operation.

The property was developed in partnership with local, Sony Radjah, who has offered travellers a welcome home at his family’s homestay for more than 20 years in the village of Melolo.

Sumba is an incredibly culturally rich island that has something for everyone - nature, culture, adventure, relaxation - with welcoming people and photo opportunities at every corner. You can see more of my photos from my time in Sumba here: staying with Sony and his family and exploring a traditional functioning village near Melolo (and Amu Dahi).

Marine and Youri are passionate about everything that Sumba has to offer as a tourism destination and can help you to plan an incredible experience during your time there.

Amu Dahi is the just the beginning for Marine and Yourri who have grand plans for their time in Sumba with their larger venture, Nila Resort, under development.
